New Release:
Miami Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra
This EP features the world premiere recording of Karen LeFrak's Miami Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra, performed by GRAMMY-winning guitarist Sharon Isbin with Orchestra of St. Luke’s, conducted by Enrico Lopez-Yañez.
"The concerto is an homage to the musical heritage of Miami with influences from Africa, Europe, and the indigenous peoples of Latin America. Drawing on guaguancó, one of many subgenres of Cuban rumba, the first movement “Bailamos” is followed by a tango-inspired "Romántico", and “Festivo” finale in a 6/8 bembé dance rhythm of West Africa. Transporting the listener to Miami’s South Beach, catchy melodies flow over a continuous driving rhythm of claves, congas and bongos, with virtuoso finger work from the guitar, inviting all to the dance." - Karen LeFrak

Hosted by John Devlin and Enrico Lopez-Yañez, UpBeat is a podcast by conductors, for conductors that puts an "upbeat" spin on a range of topics. Whether you conduct an orchestra, band, chorus, ballet, opera or other type of ensemble-- we want to help and provide a place for fun, engaging discussion.
Each weekly episode features “The 4/4” where John and Enrico dive into a specific topic in a highly practical way. Then, they are joined by a special guest for a discussion about the field. Occasionally, special interview-only episodes shed light on an important topic facing the classical-musical world.
